This app would be greatly improved if it could import my favorites from Apple’s Character Viewer.

I cant imagine life without Characeters. Im a full-time designer/developer, and I used to have to try and google for HTML entities. Now I just open the convenient system icon, and there it is. While its a highly niche need, its absolutely perfect for me.
Really excellent app, far better than the system character viewer because you can search by name. Unfortunately it doesnt work with Bartender: the app crashes every time it launches if you have Bartender hide Characters. Because I really want to be able to hide it, its a real issue. Additionally, it randomly crashes even without Bartender. Frustrating.
While "command-option-t" characters window will let you access and copy the character, as far as I know, it doesnt give you the hex code for the character for use on web sites so this makes accessing that info convenient enough to merit the price in my opinion. Im only giving 4 stars - if you guys enable a way to turn off the emoji characters, Ill change it to 5. Those are annoying because theres so many of them and I dont see a way to turn them off.
This app is very convenient for finding special characters. It beats the heck out of the "Apple way" of locating special characters. However, I would like to see two further developments. First, I would like to copy the character directly to the document that Im working with instead of the clipboard. I shouldnt have to do a Command-V to get the character into the document. The second development is to apply standard stretching to the drop down menu so that one can simply grab a corner as one is very used to doing. And it should stretch both ways -- vertical and horizontal. For now, Ill use it regularly but give it three stars.
Sadly, this program doesnt cover nearly as many characters as the program description made me think it would. For example, it includes 12 Arrows and 50-odd Math (symbols) whereas Apples Character Viewer lists > 300 Arrows and > 500 Math Symbols. Bugs: The settings window doesnt include entries for turning off Emoji, Hebrew, Phonetic Alphabet, and Symbols. Also, it includes Letterlike twice and lists it as including "(null)" characters instead of 8 characters. On the plus side, it lets you get the code point in decimal, hex, or as an html entity, and I found the user interface clean (though as someone else has pointed out, more window sizing possibilities would be nice).
UPDATE: Why is there still no solid star [ ★ ] star solid [ number: ★] in this app? I mean thats basically the one character I bought this App for. And its a really basic ascii character. So why isnt it just there? ------------------ I love the idea and execution of this app, but its missing some of my most used characters, especially the simple stars ★ and ☆. So it *could* be very useful, but just isnt.
This app is the quickest way to get access to special characters! I originally bought it for development purposes, because it’s a great way to get to symbols like fractions, degrees symbols, etc. to use in my apps
This is great! Makes it much easier to find certain symbols. However there is no positive sign for positive numbers. I know for many it seems obvious that if a number does not have the negative sign before it it is assume that this value is positive. But in scientific literature, mainly those that deal with lots of negatives and positive numbers, it is a norm to use consistently positive and negative signs to avoid any confusion. I downloaded it for this main purpose but at the moment is not helping. The selection of symbols is also not as large as those availabe with Word. Would be awesome if the developers keep adding symbols by user requests.
Has A Great Variety of Emojis and characters!!! Better than most! Thx. =)
It’s slow… for some reason the app just isn’t fast and there are delays on most click interactions. A small annoyance, but, doesn’t completely bother me to the point where i want my money back. Improve the speed and performance of the app would be great.
I like this app - its an improvement over the Character Viewer of OS X, but I do have two suggestions (after having it loaded for 10 minutes
As a computer science student all my instructors wanted me to learn how to use LATEX and this app saved me from having to! Only recomendations I could make would be for the developers to add tags to the symbols to increase the number of search results.
